In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
The house genre is a very divers and creative in the way that they don't have a set off rules to follow when making a music video. Each house music is unique and powerful in the way they grab the audiences attention and the way that they make the audience want to be in that music video.
For example Dada Life Freaks Have More fun makes you want to be at this event through the use of people dancing and the vibrant colours in the music video. I tried to do the same in our music video by including vibrant colours such as the luminous red during one of our scenes to create a move fun and vibrant video.
My music video tried to tell a story of a teenager roaming around London trying to have fun and trying to get the most out of life. This is similar to a music video by Tiƫsto - Red Lights which also follows a same story line of the character trying to get the most out of her life. This music video also emphasis on one of the characters throughout the music video, which I took inspiration from when creating my music video.
I also took Inspiration from Avicii - Broken Arrows to use both day and night in our music video to show what our main character does during those time and how he feels during night time in comparison to day time. This is similar to this music video as at night time the main character goes out drinking while during the day scenes he is trying to be an athlete.
The cinematography in the music video and the uses of short blacks out were inspired by Red Light where the lights would flicker to the beat on the song. I took that inspiration and tried to replicate it in my music video to slow down the narration to fit in with the beat.
Furthermore when researching conventions of a music video I cam across Andre Goodwin who was a theorist who came up with rules that you must follow to keep the conventions of your chosen genre which will guarantee a real media product.
Music videos more often than not tend to include a demonstration of typical genre characteristics
Our music video used performance shoots as well as narrative shots as this is a common thing with most house music videos which make them successful.
There are frequent references to the notion of looking and the voyeuristic treatment of the female/male body
The notion of looking includes men or women being portrayed seductively or if there is eye contact with the camera. I used a bright white light to bring out his facial feature and used a mid angle to make him look more appealing.
The record label which the artist is assigned to tends to have certain demands.
As we were the record label we wanted to have a lot of close ups of the artist and we wanted to create this urban teenager style to fit in with the teenage audience.
There is a succinct relationship between music and visuals.
The music video and the visuals to go with it linked in the way that he is looking for love and is going around London trying to find love.
Magazine Advert
bpgjis
We wanted to make sure our magazine advert and digipack looked similar to each other and could easily be linked with each other. We did this by using a shot of our main character. From the series of shots we had we decided that we wanted to use a mid shot of our character revealing his costume. We wanted our advert to catch the eyes of our target audience. We did this by using photoshop to define some of his features and to turn the tones down to give the magazine advert a calming look. We also made sure that we got rid of any spots or facial skin flaws through the use of photoshop.
When choosing what layout we would use for our magazine advert we took inspiration from Kings of Leon who had the name of their band name at the top of the magazine advert. This magazine advert also uses the face of their band members on the front just like we do. Furthermore we also decide to use Green Day's magazine advert as another inspiration when it came to choosing what image we wanted on the advert. On the Green Day one they use Billy Joel Armstrong the leader singer in the band and used his features to sell the album.
Digipak
We wanted to keep a link between our digipak and our magazine advert. We tried to do this by using a similar image for both our digipack and our magazine advert which shows that there is a link between the two products. Our digipak cover does not look like most house music digipak's. This was our intentions as we wanted our product to be different and stand out in that way. We wanted to subvert from the stereotypical house album cover and instead make it look like a pop album like James Bays album.
